MANISA WILL THRIVE WITH IUE STUDENTS
A protocol was signed between Ekrem Demirtaş, Chairman of Executive Board of Izmir Chamber of Commerce and President of IUE Board of Trustees, and Yaşar Coşkun, Chairman of Executive Board of Manisa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to brighten the future of Manisa youth. First degree blood relatives of members of Manisa Chamber of Commerce and Industry and District Chambers of Commerce qualified for 15% discount in annual tuition fees of Izmir University of Economics at the Educatürk Education Fair ceremony that took place in Manisa. Along with President Demirtaş and Coşkun, Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen, IUE Rector, Hayati Dolman, Council President of Manisa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Ali Bankoğlu, Vice Chairman of Executive Board of Manisa Chamber of Commerce and Industry attended the ceremony.
Ekrem Demirtaş stated that they established Izmir University of Economics in 2001 in order to execute the will of their ancestors at the 1st National Economy Congress. “The trade authority, who convened at the 1st National Economy Congress, said ‘chambers of commerce need to establish universities in big cities’ as cited in the minutes. When we established Izmir University of Economics in 2001, we got inspired by the will in 1923 and Ataturk’s speech, ‘economy means everything’ at the congress. Therefore, we started out with training students who will meet the demands of business world as a mission,” said Ekrem Demirtaş.
‘Collaboration makes us stronger’
President Demirtaş reminded that they ranked in the first 500 universities worldwide in 13 years, and TUSIAD’s Entrepreneurship Flag was waving at the pole at Balçova Campus. Demirtaş stated the following:
“The world has become one giant marketplace now. English has become the common language spoken all over the world. All our courses are being taught in English. We have students and academicians from Africa, Asia, America, and Europe. Manisa is a city which is very close to Izmir; it has become integrated with Izmir. We have many students from Manisa studying at IUE. Last year, With YOK’s approval, we provided 15% discount to members of Izmir Chamber of Commerce in annual tuition fees. We took the request of Manisa Chamber of Commerce and Industry into consideration. We will be providing discount to the children of businessmen of Manisa. We want to train and educate students who will improve the future of Manisa organized industrial zone. Izmir is strong with Manisa, and Manisa is strong with Izmir.”
‘We are content'
Yaşar Coşkun, Chairman of Executive Board of Manisa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, stated that they have been closely monitoring the university since the day it was established, and he said, “It pleased us greatly to have discount. We feel content to send our students to Izmir University of Economics. We do not doubt the quality of its education or the safety it provides for our children. We also offer to establish a campus here. We are ready to provide all kinds of support and help.”
'Looking forward to the students of Manisa'
IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen stated that the university, with its 8 faculties, 2 vocational schools, 2 schools, and 2 graduate schools and over 7 thousand students, would be delighted to welcome Manisa youth for a high quality education at Izmir University of Economics.
