IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS WELCOMED SPRING WITH CELEBRITIES
IUE students had a wonderful time with ‘Mor ve Ötesi’ concert on the last day of the 13th Spring Festival. During the day, they met with the cast and producers of the popular TV series, “Güneşi Beklerken” and “Kardeş Payı”. Actors Kerem Bürsin and Hande Doğan Demir from “Güneşi Beklerken” took a “Selfie” with the students.
The actors, who entered the IUE Conference Hall to thunderous applause, were not able to start chatting for a long time due to long picture taking process and display of affection by the audience. Selim Eltaş, Producer of Güneşi Beklerken, Altan Dönmez, the Director, and leading actors of the series Kerem Bürsin and Hande Doğan Demir came together with the students and answered the questions of their fans. Director Altan Dönmez stated that they produced a sincere youth show which was admired greatly. He said, “There are flashbacks in the series. It is so sincere that today’s youth enjoys it very much. This makes us very happy.”
Actress Hande Doğan Demir pointed out that the series lasted about 20 minutes in other countries, but in Turkey they lasted about 60 minutes. She said, “There may be faults, but we are doing the best we can. Kerem and I work 6 days a week. It is not easy to shoot with 16 – 17 year olds. You cannot force them to shoot for 6 days a week. You cannot keep them away from their schools. We work with a busy schedule.”
Kerem Bürsin, who has a big fan of girls, said that there wasn’t a trade union for actors in Turkey but he has been a member of one in the States when he lived there.
‘Kardeş Payı Cast Promises Internship for IUE Students’
Students also met with Mehmet Yiğit Alp, the Producer of TV series Kardeş Payı, Scriptwriter and Director Selçuk Aydemir, Actors Seda Bakan and Ali İhsan Varol. Upon the question by students, the producer Mehmet Yiğit Alp met with the University administration and announced that they would provide internship for students. Alp answered the question as to why the series wasn’t being shot at Izmir, as “Shooting them outside of Istanbul makes it harder. The whole sector is in Istanbul. We shoot a 90 minute episode each week, and accomplishing this in another city is not easy.”
Director Selçuk Aydemir was asked the question why the sit-coms were aired at late hour, he said, “Sit-coms have a lower budget compared to other series. Therefore, they require more share of the income from advertisements.” Actors Seda Bakan and Ali İhsan Varol talked about their acting experiences.
The festival came to an end with an unforgettable concert by Mor ve Ötesi followed by student clubs performances.
